N is for: Nutella Grilled Cheese & National Grilled Cheese Month

Happy National Grilled Cheese Month!

As far as food holidays go, I generally think they are a *tad* silly. But when it comes to grilled cheese, I will celebrate like it’s Thanksgiving Day.

In all of my grilled cheese adventures, I’ve never really gone the dessert route. I’ve come close… my (epic) PB&J grilled cheese last year gravitated to the sweet side, but considering it used homemade bacon jam instead of a fruit jelly definitely kept it savory.

But with Nutella being the star ingredient here, this one is truly a sweet sandwich. And if you’re thinking it sounds like a weird combo… I’ll tell you the same thing I did when I posted the PB&J…

Don’t you dare knock it ’til you’ve tried it.

Brie was the natural cheese choice here. It’s creamy, and it pairs well with the sweetness from the hazelnut spread. Plus, it melts well, which is a critical component of an all-star grilled cheese sandwich. I wanted something to cut the sugar and add a different texture, so I decided on a tart Granny Smith apple. For the bread, I went with a ciabatta roll from Whole Foods.

I don’t think you really need instructions on how to construct a grilled cheese, but just in case here you go… Butter or brush oil on the outside of your bread. Spread a generous amount of brie on one side, and Nutella on the other. Top with thinly sliced apples and sandwich together.

Grill over medium heat until each side is toasted and cheese is completely ooey-gooey melted inside. (Yes, that’s a technical term).

And voila! Creamy, chocolatey, cheesey goodness that can serve as a main dish or dessert. (Or both!)

Also, special shout-out to my cousin Erin for walking me through my new camera purchase (eeeek!!!) and set up. I’m beyond excited to play around with it more and improve my photography game. But if this photo is any indication of things to come, I’m pretty pumped.

Happy Grilled Cheese Month y’all!!

If it is as good as the PB&J, I will have to give it a try. 😎

This is perfect and yummy. The only changes I might make is the apple. Probably I would like to use pineapple or peach. 🙂

It was a great learning experience for me to visit TopElectricGriddles and read about the correct temperature setting for preparing grilled cheese. Now, I know how to do it rightfully.
